The C2IMPRESS project had its 4th general assembly and 5th periodic meeting on 08-09 April 2025 in Ordu, Türkiye. Hosted by one of the consortium members, Ordu Metropolitan Municipality, fifteen other partners gathered to discuss the updates and planning of the C2IMPRESS project.
Deputy Mayor of Ordu Metropolitan Municipality, Celal Tezcan, inaugurated the meeting. In the opening speech, he discussed the importance of using science to take preventive action in today’s world, which faces growing environmental challenges. The Deputy Mayor also mentioned the geographical challenges of Ordu and the municipality's efforts to reduce the impacts of floods and landslides, highlighting the significance of the C2IMPRESS Project as a valuable contribution to these efforts.
On the first day, the work package leaders presented achievements, current tasks and challenges. The System for Multi-Hazard Risk Intelligence Network (SoS4MHRIN) was presented. This tool is an advanced disaster simulation system developed within the project. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs) and risk management strategies that guide the goals and deliverables of the past year were also discussed on the opening day of the meeting. In a specific session, one of the project consortium members, Technovative Solutions, showcased the C2IMPRESS decision support platform and the functionalities of each microservices developed by consortium members under the scope for the C2IMPRES project.
On the final day of the meeting, a Case Study Area (CSA) Vulnerability Assessment Workshop was held. Since Ordu and Central Portugal are among the CSAs, they were highlighted in the workshop. During the session, participants discussed local vulnerabilities in the context of disaster preparedness and explored resilience strategies to address the identified hazards.
The event was concluded by a visit to one of Ordu’s three Early Warning System (EWS) stations located on Civil Creek – a sub-pilot area known for hazard exposure, a cable car trip to Boztepe Hill at 550 metres altitude and a city tour featuring Ordu’s natural and cultural heritage - highlighted by a visit to Cape Jason, famous for its link to the golden fleece legend.
The host city of the event, Ordu, is one of the four Case Study Areas (CSAs) of the project, located in northern Turkey, in the Eastern Black Sea Region. This region witnesses annual rainfall exceeding 2,500 mm in some areas, with continuous rainfall throughout the year. Short periods of heavy rainfall are also a common phenomenon in Ordu, which leads to frequent flooding. Ordu's terrain is particularly prone to natural hazards such as landslides, floods and rockfalls due to steep hills and a network of 36 rivers and streams. These unique geographical and climatic conditions make Ordu an ideal Living Laboratory (LL3) to test innovative flood risk management and climate resilience solutions.
To effectively manage the hazards, the C2IMPRESS project engaged local communities, including public, private, and civil society actors, in the Public-Private-Civil Partnership (PPCP) model and raised awareness among them. Through PPCP workshops, the stakeholders co-develop solutions for local hazards. This inclusive approach empowers vulnerable groups, ensures resilience strategies meet Ordu’s real needs, enhances the implementation of early warning systems, and improves emergency response capabilities. This collaborative framework ensures that climate adaptation and risk reduction solutions are sustainable and practical for Ordu’s future resilience.
This edition of the general assembly and periodic meeting in Ordu provided the platform for all the consortium partners to show the developed tools and the progress. In workshops, locals, city authorities, and NGOs helped design plans to cope with the hazards. The project is set to spread resilience across Europe through innovation and collaboration.
